GOT Dragons? Tour

Geek Nation Tours is still hard at work planning our Game of Thrones tour. Pricing will soon be finished but we thought we would give you a sneak peak at our tour and offer it up for Pre-Registration. All you need do is grab the space and upon pricing completion we will shoot you an email to see if you are ready to move forward!  We will be headed to multiple countries on this one and are very excited to start off in Iceland and Ireland!  More information should be out soon so return to this site often! If you are interested in this tour please email us at

Winter is here. Join Geek Nation Tours on an epic adventure through the real life locations used in filming Game of Thrones. This 13-day tour will take you through Westeros in Northern Ireland and beyond the wall in Iceland. If you choose to book the 3-day pre-tour extension, you’ll visit King’s Landing and the continent of Essos in Croatia. We’ll be traveling in April to use the cooler weather as the perfect backdrop for a world where the Long Winter has settled in and the cold specter of the Night King rides his dead horse ominously toward the world of men. If you think you can claim to be a fan of the HBO series and NOT take this tour, then you know nothing.

Pre Ext Day 1: Sunday, April 8th – Dubrovnik

If you book the optional pre extension, you will arrive in King’s Landing…or as the plain folk call it, Dubrovnik. You will be given detailed instructions of how to reach your hotel and meet your Geek Nation Tours Tour Leader. After you’ve checked in, the day is yours to explore the medieval Croatian city nestled on the coast of the Adriatic. If you’d rather rest and relax after your long journey, that’s definitely understandable.

Your Tour Leader will be able to point you in the direction of some nearby Game of Thrones locations you may be interested in. Perhaps you’ll want to visit the Arboretum Trsteno. Dating back to the 15th century (making it one of the oldest in the world), this arboretum served as House Tyrell’s gardens in King’s Landing. It will certainly be hard to decide whether to bask in the garden’s beauty like wide-eyed Sansa Stark, or cut the BS and get down to business like Lady Olenna Tyrell.

Before leaving the village of Trsteno, you might want to see Tsrteno Harbor. Bring a sword if you’ve got one because this is where Bronn trained Jamie F-ing Lannister to fight with his left hand after losing the right one during his journey from The North to King’s Landing

In the evening, you’ll gather with the rest of your traveling companions for a Welcome Dinner at your hotel. Here your tour leader will give you more information on what to expect in the days ahead. You’ll also have the chance to mingle with your tour-mates…or plot and connive against them as you begin to spin your web of intrigue. We’ll enjoy a wine academy with our very own wine steward. Their job, of course, is to drink and know things…about wine. We’ll sample and learn more about Croatian wines and how they compare against Dornish wines (Hint: One of them is real, the other not so much).

Pre Ext Day 2: Monday, April 9th – Dubrovnik

Put on your sea legs as we venture out for a panorama cruise around the city this morning. We’ll view King’s Landing from the water on board a private sailing vessel. Luckily the city’s stores of wildfire have been exhausted and there’s no chance we’ll burn in Blackwater Bay. However, no one is ever quite sure where Euron Greyjoy will turn up since the crew of the Silence is so…well…silent (a slight side effect of having your tongue cut out). With any luck we’ll also get a chance to see the old Belvedere hotel where Oberyn Martell came SO close to defeating The Mountain before having his skull crushed during Tyrion Lannister’s trial by combat.

We’ll make landfall and enjoy another incredible meal overlooking the Narrow Sea (sorry fellas, no fermented crab). We’ll break for lunch just outside the old city gates of Dubrovnik overlooking the stone dock tucked in the cove where Cersei watched her daughter Myrcella sail away to Dorne, betrothed to Trystane Martell and where Sansa and Shae watch ships before Littlefinger arrives to try and whisk Sansa away from King’s Landing.

After lunch, you’ll spend the afternoon on a comprehensive King’s Landing tour of Dubrovnik with your Tour Leader visiting several locations featured in the series including Joffrey’s tournament, power struggles with the High Sparrow, and a certain someone’s very public walk of shame…shame…shame. The tour is SO comprehensive that it goes beyond King’s Landing to include locations used for Essos including the Spice King’s palace in Qarth and the House of the Undying, you’ll never want to leave! We’ll also stop by Gradac Park. This was the scene of the immensely satisfying Purple Wedding. Fear not, no food or wine will be served in the park during our visit.

We’ll enjoy a spectacular dinner on the waterfront before retiring back to the hotel for the evening and resting up for our next day’s excursion.

Pre Ext Day 3: Tuesday, April 10th – Dubrovnik/Belfast

Rise and shine! Today we’ll make our way from Dubrovnik to Belfast to meet up with the rest of the tour group and begin the main section of our tour. We likely won’t have access to any dragons (living or undead) so we’ll probably have to settle for modern air transportation. Unless you have a dragon, then always chose to fly by dragon.

Day 1: Tuesday, April 10th – Belfast

If you’ve booked only the main portion of the tour, today will be the day you meet up with your Tour Leader and traveling companions in Belfast, Northern Ireland. You’ll be given detailed instructions on how to reach the hotel and have the bulk of the day free to rest and recover from your journey. However, once your Geek Nation Tours Tour Leader arrives and the majority of travelers have checked in, you’ll have the option to join them out and about on a semi-spontaneous afternoon in Belfast. The likely destination will be the Ulster Museum, home of the Game of Thrones tapestry. This incredible artwork is modeled after the historical Bayeux Tapestry but instead of depicting the victory of William the Conquerer, it portrays the events of each episode from the first seven seasons of the series.

In the evening we’ll gather for a welcome dinner in the hotel’s restaurant. Here you’ll be able to mingle with your new friends and your Tour Leader will give you more detailed information about what to expect for the duration of the tour. Rest assured, no one will be sending anyone their regards and nobody will be baked into any pies. Not that we know of at least.

After dinner your Tour Leader will head out to the Dark Horse Pub and you’re welcome to join them for a pint. The pub is the home to one of ten beautifully carved wooden doors that share a special connection with the series and depict key elements from each episode of season six.

Day 2: Wednesday, April 11th – Belfast

Today you’ll saddle up and ride out (by motor coach) with your Tour Leader on an all day excursion into the Westeros section of Northern Ireland. In the morning, you’ll pass by Titanic Studios, the central home to Game of Thrones and see sights such as Cairncastle, where Ned Stark swings the sword and executes a Night’s Watch deserter to open the series all the way back in Winter is Coming, Carnlough, where Arya emerges from the harbor after being stabbed in The Broken Man, and Cushedon Caves where Ser Davos Seaworth watches Melisandre give birth to her shadow baby in Garden of Bones.

We’ll enjoy lunch in the tiny coastal town of Ballintoy which serves as Pike in the series. Bring some extra clothes as you’ll have a chance for your very own Ironborn baptism before continuing the tour.

In the afternoon we’ll see spots such as Dunluce Castle (Caslte Greyjoy), the Moneyglass Estate (Winterfell), and the world-renowned Dark Hedges which double as the King’s Road in the series as we make our way back toward Belfast. There’s even time to stop and see the Giant’s Causeway. Although it wasn’t used by Wun Wun or his people, legend says the causeway was used by giants to cross from Northern Ireland to Scotland in the time before time. You won’t recognize the causeway from Game of Thrones, but you will recognize it from the cover of Led Zeppelin’s Houses of the Holy. In the evening, we’ll dine together and enjoy the fellowship of our Brotherhood before turning in after a long, but incredible day.

Day 3: Thursday, April 12th – Belfast

You’ll spend the day traveling Northern Ireland by coach again today as we visit more filming locations in County Down including Tollymore Forrest, Inch Abbey, and Castle Ward. Today’s focus will be on northern locations and their connection to Winterfell (which are strangely in the southern section of our tour). We’ll also visit with some furry actors who appeared early in the series. You’ll have the chance to meet and greet the hounds who played the direwolf pups back in season one. Although they’re not as tiny and cuddly as they once were, they have grown to be beautiful and majestic creatures. They’re also quite photogenic which will come in handy as you sit with them on the Iron Throne during our visit.

Another long day finishes up back in Belfast with another spectacular spread for dinner and we’ll be hopefully blessed by the old gods and the new and survive the feast without a single drop of blood spilt.

Day 4: Friday, April 13th – Belfast

Make sure you eat a hearty breakfast today as we’ll be training for war. Don’t worry, you won’t have to spend countless hours together with your Lord (or Lady if you follow the path of Podrick Payne). We’ll spend the morning in small groups training with professional trainers in Belfast and you’ll even have the chance to purchase your training sword at the end of the session for a truly legendary souvenir. We’ll shift from the blade to the bow later in the morning and partake in an archery clinic. It may seem difficult at first, but luckily the targets are as shifty as Rickon Stark so they should be pretty easy to hit.

After lunch on your own, we’ll regroup and divide ourselves into various camps for an afternoon long game of espionage. You and your housemates and bannermen must work together in a race against the other teams. It will take all of the cunning and ruthlessness of the best players in the game so take your cues from Littlefinger and Lord Varys and do whatever it takes to win, No One can stop you! There is sure to be some sweet swag for the winners which may or may not include a sack of onions.

We’ll announce the winners during our dinner together in the evening. But we’ll make sure we have plenty of time to get back to the hotel and pack since this is our last night in Belfast before continuing along on our journey together.

Day 5: Saturday, April 14th – Belfast/Reykjavik

Today we leave Westeros behind and head to where the Wildlings are. The Iron Fleet may be fast but dragons are faster. However, there haven’t been any dragons on the British Isles for thousands of years so we’ll have to settle for modern aircraft as we fly from Belfast to Reykjavik, Iceland.

Depending on our arrival and check in time, we may be able to learn a bit more about the old gods of The Sagas before heading out for dinner together.

Day 6: Sunday, April 15th – Reykjavik

Today you’ll board a coach for a day long tour of the Icelandic countryside near Reykjavik. We’ll visit several filming locations near the Icelandic capital including where Brienne of Tarth dueled The Hound in The Children and the Thingvellir. Known around the world as a volcanic continental rift, the Thingvellir is not only the location of a Wildling encampment and the Bloody Gate of the Vale of Aryn, but it’s also the real life location of the world’s first parliament dating back to the 10th century!

After a full day, we’ll return to our hotel in the evening with a bit of time to freshen up before heading out for dinner. After dinner you’re free to enjoy the nightlife of Reykjavik or return to the hotel and rest up after the day’s adventures.

Day 7: Monday, April 16th – Reykjavik

Today we’ll saddle up and trek into the Icelandic wilderness on a Pony trekking adventure. We’ll learn more about these not-so-large horses the Vikings brought with them when they settled the island over a thousand years ago before riding them on a tour of fire and ice (lava and…well…ice) in south-western Iceland.

After returning to Reykjavik in the early afternoon, you’ll have the rest of the day to do as you please. Your Tour Leader will be on hand to offer suggestions and advice as you explore the city. We’ll regroup in the evening for dinner together to share our tales of the day’s adventures.

Day 8: Tuesday, April 17th – Reykjavik

Grab your ice axes and hold on to your red beards, today we will be scaling The Wall. We’ll spend the full day on a glacier hiking and climbing expedition led by local climbing experts. Although the glacier won’t be as threatening as when Jon Snow, Ygritte, and the other Wildings scaled The Wall in The Climb, it will still be dangerous so we’ll be sure to listen closely as our guides show us how to safely make it to the top of the ice. We’ll break for lunch mid-day and your Tour Leader will be on hand to provide sack lunches for the group (unless you want to go native and dine on crazy Scandinavian fish in a tube).

Once we return to the hotel in the evening, you’ll be on your own for dinner. However, don’t stay out too late as we’ll need to pack for our big journey the following day.

Day 9: Wednesday, April 18th – Reykjavik/Myvatn

In the morning, you’ll check out of the hotel and get ready for the long trek across the island to Myvatn. Before we leave Reykjavik, however, we’ll set sail out into the frigid Atlantic. You may fancy yourself a smuggler like Davos Seaworth or an insane pirate King like Euron Greyjoy, but we’ll be on the lookout for the largest creatures on the planet. And while Daenerys’ dragons may rule the skies over the Seven Kingdoms and beyond, our eyes will be fixed on the water as we search for whales!

We’ll make landfall around midday and set out across country by coach for the frozen expanses of central Iceland. We’ll have plenty of opportunity to enjoy lunch along the way and pass the time formulating and perfecting our best theories of who will win the Iron Throne, who is the Prince Who Was Promised (or PrinCESS), what is the Night King’s endgame, and just how much incest is too much?

Upon arrival in Myvatn, we’ll check in to our hotel and enjoy a late evening meal together. If it’s not too late, we may even find a bit of table space to do some Game of Thrones gaming before turning in for the night.

Day 10: Thursday, April 19th – Myvatn

Today we’ll head out by coach to visit filing locations near Lake Myvatn including Mance Rayder’s Wilding camp, Jon & Yrgitte’s secret cave, and an afternoon soak in the hot springs of Myvatn Nature Baths.

We’ll be dropped back off at our hotel and have the chance to dry off before venturing out into the icy wilderness for dinner together. Luckily it won’t be anything Podrick roasted over the fire, and we don’t have the chance to sample anything from the skilled kitchen of Hot Pie, so we’ll tuck ourselves in to a nice local restaurant to enjoy some hearty Icelandic fare.

Day 11: Friday, April 20th – Myvatn

Today is a day of fire and ice. We’ll depart directly from the hotel by snowmobile and dash across the frozen expanse of Lake Myvatn. We’ll spend some time basking in the Land of Always Winter with our local guide before returning to the hotel with enough time to grab a bite to eat on your own.

After lunch we’ll set out by coach to Lofthellir Ice Cave. We’ll spend the afternoon spelunking inside a giant block of ice carved by the fire and heat beneath the islands volcanic surface.

In the evening we’ll band together for one last meal north of the wall and pack our bags for the long journey the following day. With any luck the night sky will be clear and we’ll get an unparalleled view of the Northern Lights before heading back to civilization. But be careful if you head out on your own, for the night is dark and full of terrors.

Day 12: Saturday, April 21st – Myvatn/Reykjavik

Today we’ll leave Myvatn behind us and make the long trip back to Reykjavik by coach. We’ll stop for lunch along the way and keep ourselves entertained with more stories, games, and maybe even a compilation of the most shocking, most heartbreaking, and most badass moments from the series.

Upon our return the Reykjavik, we’ll enjoy one last meal together. If the time together has softened our allegiances to any specific house, then perhaps we will dine together at last as a Brotherhood Without Banners.

Day 13: Sunday, April 22nd – Reykjavik

Today is the day we must say goodbye to our newfound friends. Over the journey we most likely have shifted alliances and made new bonds. Our satchels may be filled with reminders of the adventure, but hopefully the new friendships and memories we’ve made will last long after our story ends.
